With Thanksgiving fast approaching, all of us here at Litigation Insights would like to take a little time to reflect on the things we are thankful for, and the ways we can give back to our community. One thing we are all grateful for, is working for a company that encourages and allows us to take the time to volunteer throughout the year. In this special issue of Insights, we would like to take a moment to feature the charities we worked with and highlight the services they offer to help our community.
This past year, we had the opportunity to volunteer with “Bark For Life,” a BBQ lunch fundraiser sponsored by the American Cancer Society to raise money for Hope Lodge. Hope Lodge is a facility that offers free housing to cancer patients, and their families, traveling to the Kansas City area for treatment.
We also volunteered our time to help the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. This charity provides holiday assistance to low-income residents of Johnson County, Kansas. At the 2013 Holiday Shop, JCCB served 12,526 individuals representing 3,300 families and 697 nursing home residents.
In addition to volunteering, we continue to donate to various charities in the Kansas City area all year round. With many of our employees traveling, we often collect unused hotel toiletries, and donate those to Kansas City Rescue Mission andKansas City Hospice House. Kansas City Rescue Mission is a Christ-centered community offering freedom and hope to the poor and homeless, empowering them to reach their full potential. Kansas City Hospice House provides medical and nursing care for patients facing advanced illnesses, all in the comfort of a beautiful, homelike environment, when staying at home is not an option.
Litigation Insights was also proud to sponsor a team at The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” this past summer. Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising event from 6pm to 6am the following day. Relay for Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Moreover, because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times during this period. All money raised at this event goes to The American Cancer Society. Funds are used for various things, such as funding for cancer research and clinical trials, paying for lodging at American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, and much more.
Each year, as the year draws to an end, Litigation Insights is lucky enough to adopt a family for the holiday season. We have supported families in need during the holidays through Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family program, as well as, donating to Toys For Tots, and also donating gift bags to Sack It For Santa, which is a gift giving program specifically geared for teens.
All of us here at Litigation Insights are grateful to be able to give our time and donations to these wonderful causes and charities.
