As our 20th anniversary year comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the remarkable journey and the influences that paved the way for our success and longevity.
From humble beginnings, Litigation Insights evolved into a full-service, nationally recognized leader in the trial consulting field. In a field once characterized by an adherence to conventional wisdom, we emphasized data-driven research. And in a business often characterized by transitory relationships, we made it a point to build long-lasting partnerships both with clients and our own team members.
Of course, we’ve had a great mentor. One of our founding principals, Pete Rowland, developed unprecedented models for jury research and jury selection that refined and reinvigorated the field of trial consulting. Based on the rigor befitting his academic background in the social sciences, his methods eschewed intuition and assumption in favor of real data. This year, the American Society of Trial Consultants formally recognized Dr. Rowland’s groundbreaking work, honoring him with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Just as important as his research, Dr. Rowland had the foresight to spot and nurture new talent in the industry. Our current CEO, Dr. Merrie Jo Pitera, was a product of the Litigation Science program at Kansas University – a program Dr. Rowland helped to found – as well as one of his early interns. But she is far from the only one to benefit from his astute mentorship; many of our current staff of 27 professionals launched their careers under his tutelage. Never one to rest on his laurels, he continues to play an active role at Litigation Insights as a valuable source of knowledge, guidance, and friendship.
Dr. Rowland, however, would be the first to acknowledge how much we’ve also learned from others: from other seasoned veterans in the field, to the clients with whom we partner, to the up-and-coming litigation research professionals who point us in new directions. We are far better at what we do because of all they have taught us.
It may seem ironic for a firm that prides itself on innovation to pause and look back on its origins. But perhaps our year-end reflection on the 20 years that brought us here best serves to put into focus those values most important to our future. Flourishing under the precedent set by leaders like Dr. Rowland, our talented team of professionals is committed to bringing that same spirit of innovation and same passion for personal service to every new project and client.
From All of Us at Litigation Insights, Best Wishes for a Healthy and Prosperous 2015!
